The loss of four starters off last year’s team, non of which were seniors, meant second-year Eupora High School slow-pitch softball coach Kaley Harris would have to move some players around.
“We had one move and some others who decided not to play (slow-pitch),” Harris said. “We have made some adjustments. It is going to be a rebuilding year, but I think we have a chance to be pretty good by the end of the year. Our pitching will be good and our outfield is solid. We have all seniors out there except one.”
Handling the pitching will be Kendall Gibson, while Kaitlin Burton is in left, Hai-Leigh Hodges is in left-center, Emily Littlejohn is in right-center and Savannah Kilpatrick is in right.
“The infield is where we will be pretty young,” Harris said.
Courtney Hatcher will play first, with Brittany Cooper at second, Marlee Ray at short and Hannah McDowell at third base. Khyler Cain will handle the duties behind the plate.
“We are going to be a base-hit type of team,” Harris said. “We are not really going to have a lot of power bats, but we should be able to run the bases pretty well.”
Eupora opens the season on Saturday by hosting the six-team Eupora Classic. EHS will play Grenada at 12:45 a.m. and New Hope at 3:15 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are set to visit New Hope on Tuesday and travel to Louisville on Thursday, Aug. 22, before taking part in the Grenada Tournament on Aug. 24.
