Beginning

beekeeper

workshop Aug. 10

A beginning beekeeper workshop will be Aug. 10 at the Mississippi Modern Homestead Center in Starkville from 9 am-noon.

An additional beginners workshop associated with the annual meeting of the Mississippi Beekeepers Association in Tupelo will be held during the second week in November. Details and program will be provided later.

Back-to-School

Bash Aug. 10

Webster County Back-to-School Bash will be from 2-7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the NMMC-Eupora walking track.

Wristbands, which are $10, allow access to water slides and jumpers. A variety of concessions will be available.

All proceeds benefit Relay for Life of Webster County and the American Cancer Society.

Gospel Music

Jamboree Aug. 10

A Gospel Music Jamboree will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Gore Springs Community Center. Admission is $5.

Performing will be Heavenly Journey of Pearl, Joyce Noise Quarter of Ackerman, Saving Grace of Amory and Unity 4 Quartet of Iuka.

Friends of

the Library

The regular meeting of the Friends of the Library in Eupora will be Aug. 12 at 11:30 a.m.

Charles Weatherly will present a slideshow featuring rose photos of all kinds that relate to the MSU Rose Garden and other rose views from the community. He is director of development emeritus for the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine at MSU.

He was also a Master Gardener Volunteer in the Class of 2003. Weatherly has served on the Development Committee for the American Rose Society for years and was chairman of the Gulf District of the American Rose Society in 2003.

A light lunch will be available afterward for a nominal fee. Everyone is invited to attend.

Story time

Story time will begin at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Webster County Library in Eupora for ages 3-6. Contact the library at 258-7515 if you need more information.

Prairie Opportunity

Prairie Opportunity Inc. Community Action Agency will conduct a public hearing at 4 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Community Center, 390 Clark Ave., Eupora.

WIC closings

The Mississippi State Department of Health has announced that the Webster County Health Department and Women, Infants and Children distribution center will be closed Aug. 16.

The Tombigee Public Health District offices will also be closed that day in Calhoun, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Lowndes, Monroe, Noxubee, Oktibbeha and Winston counties.

Forever Outdoors

fundraiser Aug. 17

A fundraiser for Forever Outdoors will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Tractor Supply Co. in Starkville.

Forever Outdoors is a non-profit organization that will treat five wounded warriors to a Kansas deer hunt in September. Founders Rob Robinson of Eupora and Gill Alexander of Kansas will be present, as will the veterans taking the hunting trip.

The fundraiser will feature barbecue plate lunches, children’s activities, the Archery in the Schools Program sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, a carwash and entertainment.

The event is pet friendly and those attending should bring their lawn chairs.

FUMC blood drive

United Blood Services will conduct a blood drive at Eupora First United Methodist Church on Aug. 20 from 2-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Every three seconds someone needs blood in this country — the overwhelming majority would die without it.

Giving blood is one of the most important things a person can do. One donation of blood can help as many as three patients. You can give blood every eight weeks. “Give the gift of life.”

Springhill School

reunion Aug. 31

Springhill School reunion (Webster County) will be Aug. 31 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Springhill School building.

The school operated from 1927-57. Anyone who attended the school is invited, along with their spouse. Potluck lunch will be at noon; bring your favorite dish.

Story Hour

The Mathiston Public Library has Story Hour and activities for children of all ages every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Story Hour is directed by Jill Carroll.

AA meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo at VFW

Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.
