Longtime Noxapater catering lady dies

On July 27, people waiting at the Maben Farmers’ Market were met with some bad news. One of the vendors for the market, who had long ago made many friends in the area, has died.
Leola Mason had made a trip to St. Louis, Mo., to attend a family reunion. She had developed a blood clot and died, according to reports.
Miss Leola, as she was so affectionately called by all who had met her, began coming to Maben long before the Farmers’ Market began and had been a regular there for the last three years.
When she came to Maben, she always had her SUV packed with orders for people who had placed them the week before. Miss Leola’s fried apple and peach pies, caramel cakes and other baked goods from her Noxapater catering business were well-known around here as being some of the best you could find.
A memorial service will be Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness Center in Noxapater.
