From Staff Reports
East Webster High students will start the school year at the temporary campus in Mathiston because the new school building is not complete.
“Weather delays and construction delays have not allowed us to move in,” Superintendent of Education Jack Treloar said July 31.
He said the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, which owns the former Wood College campus, is allowing East Webster High School to continue using it. Webster County students return to school Aug. 7.
Treloar said parents are being notified that EWHS students will begin the school year in Mathiston through the all-call system, which distributes a recorded message from the school to them.
When ground was broken in Cumberland for East Webster’s new academic facility in May 2012, officials said they expected it to be completed by this August. Panola Construction of Batesville is the contractor.
“We do not plan to move in until it is complete,” Treloar said.
East Webster High has been housed at Wood since one week after the April 2011 tornado that destroyed the school’s Cumberland campus.
