Eupora aldermen have been working on the city’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.
They had budget work sessions during a special called meeting July 23 and a recessed meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The Board of Aldermen faces a Sept. 15 deadline to approve the fiscal 2014 budget and determine its operating millage. A public hearing must be held before final adoption of the budget.
Tony Thompson of Deep South Software Solutions of Starkville met with aldermen during last week’s budget work session. He has been working with the city to implement new accounting software.
In other business July 23, the board accepted a letter of engagement from the accounting firm Watkins, Ward and Stafford to perform the city’s fiscal 2012 audit.
Additionally, the board authorized Joyce Hendrix to access timber that will be cut on Patsy Kilgore’s property north of Hall Road on the west side of Highway 9.
In conjunction, aldermen authorized the board attorney to draw up a 90-day contract, which is to stipulate that Hendrix will be responsible for any damage to the premises.
The board’s next regular meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday.
