Sales tax revenues up

Eupora and Mathiston’s sales tax revenues for May were up from the same month last year, new reports show.

The city of Eupora received a transfer of $37,633 from the Mississippi Department of Revenue. That’s up 3.66 percent from the $36,301 received in May 2012.

For the fiscal year to date (since July 1, 2012), the city has received $416.460 in sales tax revenue, compared with $445,085 for the previous fiscal year up to May, a decrease of 6.43 percent.

May sales tax collections in Mathiston were $16,531, up slightly from the $16,492 collected a year earlier. Fiscal year-to-date collections are $188,160, a decrease of 4.67 percent from the $197,384 collected during the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.

These figures reflect other area taxes collected on May sales with 2012 figures in parentheses:

• Maben: $53,735 ($51,947)

• Mantee: $2,243 ($2,634)

• Walthall: $1,785 ($2,052)
