Arnold Duncan

July 3, 2013

Services for Victor Arnold Duncan, 90, of Mantee were July 5, 2013, at Mantee Baptist Church with the Rev. William Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mantee.

He was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Houston to the late Ruben Gaston and Vannie Jane Griffin Duncan. Mr. Duncan was a retired heavy equipment operator for Russ Butler, and an owner and partner of D&J Service Station. He was a member of Mantee Baptist Church and was a World War II Army veteran. He died July 3, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Johnson Duncan; a daughter, Mary Ann Duncan; and a brother, Ruble Duncan, all of Mantee.

Lottie Drexel McClure

July 3, 2013

Services for Lottie Drexel McClure, 82, were July 6, 2013, at Chester Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was born May 14, 1931, in Choctaw County. Mrs. McClure was a former church secretary. She died July 3, 2013, at her residence near Ackerman.

Survivors include her husband, James McClure of Ackerman; two sons, Larry McClure and Terry McClure of Ackerman; a sister, Carolyn Bright Norman of Clinton; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Kathy Crowley McKnight

July 6, 2013

Services for Kathy Crowley McKnight, 55, of Ackerman will be at 2 p.m. July 12, 2013, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Roger Griffith officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery near Ackerman.

She was born Dec. 2, 1957, in Oktibbeha County. Mrs. McKnight was a homemaker. She died July 6, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Robbie McKnight; a son, Adam Bright; a daughter, Amanda Armstrong; a brother, Howard Crowley; two sisters, Margaret Kent and Sue Kyles, all of Ackerman; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the South Union Cemetery Fund.

 

Cheryl M. Woodson

July 2, 2013

Services for Cheryl M. Woodson, 69, of French Camp were July 6, 2013, at Bethsaida Baptist Church with the Rev. Alex Lawson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was born Sept.. 14, 1943, to the late George and Betty Aultman Wills in Pahokee, Fla. Mrs. Woodson died July 2, 2013, at Infinity Hospice in Marion.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome Woodson of French Camp; two sons, Kenneth Woodson and Bradley Woodson; a daughter, Melissa Woodson Sheffield; two brothers, Kent Mills and Buddy Mills of Okeechobee, Fla.; three sisters, Ernestine Caldwell, Marge Chandler and Marty Mills; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nita Fields

Eupora,MS

Mrs. Nita Fields, 80, Homemaker, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in Eupora, MS. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Friday July 5, 2013 at the White Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Webster County with burial folowing in the White Hill Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the White Hill Freewill Baptist Church, and Friday, July 5, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the church. Mrs. Fields was a member of the White Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Jack McQuary and Rev. Howard Rodgers officiated.

Survivors include two daughters: Darlene Fields Parker of Eupora, MS and Lori Kottenbrook and husband John of Rio Rancho, NM; two brothers: John Ed Warren of Carbon Hill, AL, and Hollis Warren of Bailey, MS; three grandchildren: Marcia Flatt and husband Jeffery, Mary Kottenbrook, and Benjamin Kottenbrook; three greatgrandchildren: Maggie Flatt, Justin Flatt, and Joshua Flatt.

Pallbearers were: Johnny Fowler, Jason Hillhouse, Bobby Lewis, Scott Murphree, Daniel Rodgers, and Barry Slay.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Beaird

Eupora, MS

Jerry Wayne Beaird, 77, of Eupora was called to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, July 4, 2013. He is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Catherine Jo Jones Beaird of Eupora; a daughter, Cynthia Beaird Rushing of Belden, MS; a son, Steven Craig Beaird (Janie) of Eupora; a grandson, Jeremy Roland Rushing (Lindsay) of Eupora; a sister, Virginia “Jinx” Sturdivant of Eupora; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Everett and Mayme Lee McDade Beaird; brother Everett Lee Beaird; and sister, Mavis Gearldine Beaird.

Mr. Beaird was a native of Webster County, an area he kept “cool” for over 30 years. He and his family lived many places across this great nation throughout his 20 years with the United States Air Force. He proudly and faithfully served his country, at home and abroad, retiring as a Master Sargent.

He attended Golden Triangle Vocational School; he is a member of Tomnolen Baptist Church. He was a member of the DAV, disabled veterans. Jerry served as the State Commander for the Mississippi VFW 2003 – 2004. He was also a member of the American Legion, Shriner’s, and the Mason’s. He maintained the VFW state prayer lists for over 10 years, served two terms on the Board of Alderman and one term as Police Commissioner.

Visitation was on Sunday, July 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Oliver Funeral Home. Services were held on Monday, July, 8, 2013 at 11:00am at Tomnolen Baptist Church with Rev. Don Parish officiating. Burial followed in Webster Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were: Billy Jones, Stanley Maddox, Freddie Pate, Bobby Sturdivant, Donnie Wofford, and Drew Wofford. Honorary pallbearers were: Members of the VFW Post 4970 of Carthage, Roy Tuck and Toby Jones

Mr. Charles Potter

Charles Gary Potter entered his heavenly father’s presence on May 29, 2013 at his residence in Marion, Arkansas.

The funeral was held on June 3, 2013 at the Family Care Funeral Home in Memphis, TN.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1951 in Memphis, TN to Mary Katherine Potter and Lem C. Potter. Survivors are his mother, Mary Katherine Potter, four brothers, Chip Potter, Robin Potter, Kenneth Potter and Keith Potter, one sister, Kathy Terlep, four children, Charlie James Potter, Tiffany E. Potter, Melissa S. Potter and Joshua Potter, three grandchildren, McKenzie Morrow, Alex Morrow and Maisa Alsharis.

Charles attended Whitehaven Elementary and Raineshaven Elementary Schools in Whitehaven, TN. He attended Eupora High School two years, then entered Fairly High School in Whitehaven, TN where he graduated. He joined the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Division, serving two years.

He moved back to Eupora where he was employed at Howell Chevrolet Co. for three years, then became self-employed at Southside Garage for ten years. He moved back to Memphis where he was employed several years for Firestone Tire Co., then became employed at Don Gage Motor Co. in West Memphis, TN as a Master Technical Mechanic for 15 years.

He was very well known to his many friends as a loving, caring and well respected person who repaired numerous vehicles of friends, family and neighbors, free of charge. He loved his family very much. He was a member of Labelle Haven Baptist Church. He was loved by many friends and family.

 

Mrs. Faye Makamson Clifford

Madison, Ms.

Mrs. Faye Makamson Clifford, 65, Insurance Clerk, died June 29, 2013 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Ms. Funeral Services were held 11:00AM Wednesday July 3 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Indianola City Cemetery. Bro. Shorty Carden officiated.

She was a member of the Ruleville Baptist Church in Ruleville, Ms.

Mrs. Faye is survived by a daughter; Tammy Clifford, Madison, Ms., mother; Mamie Makamson, Eupora, Ms., two sisters; Barbara Golden and Judy Makamson both of Eupora, Ms., grandson; Alston Clapp, Madison, Ms., three nieces; Lisa Huguley, Cheryl Dunn and Amy Shurden, and two nephews; Ron and John Huguley.

Mrs. Agnes Fulgham Vance

Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Fulgham Vance, 70, were held at First Baptist Church in Calhoun City, MS on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Jon Doler and Bro. Mike Smith officiated. Burial followed at College Hill Cemetery in Vardaman.

A resident of Calhoun City, MS, Mrs. Vance was a self-employed beautician. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Calhoun City, and was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Vance passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. she was born in Maben, Ms; the daughter of Shelly Fulgham and Myrtle Bowen Fulgham. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Jimmy Vance of Calhoun City, MS; her daughters, Lawanda (Alan) Prestage of Bruce and Traci Vance of Brandon; her sons, Michael (Melissa) Boykin of Jackson, Darren (Rhonda) Vance of Hernando, and Dale (Kim) Vance of Jackson; her sister, Marzell Cobb of Hazelhurst; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Blue, Tyler Boykin, Kyle Vance, Dylon Vance, Brandon Cobb, Randy Brooks, Lee Vance, Corey Vance and Denton Vance.

Honorary Pallbearers were Calvin Brooks, Chris Blue, Michael Blue and Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Samantha Crowell

Eupora, MS

Samantha Caywood Crowell of Eupora passed away on Tuesday July 2, 2013 at NMMC in Tupelo at the age of 82. Mrs. Crowell was born on April 6, 1931 in Rosewell New Mexico to the late Charlie and Alice Mae Caywood. She was a member of Walthall Baptist Church and she was retired from management and advertising of an apartment complex.

Services for Mrs. Crowell was held at 2PM Friday July 5, 2013 at Walthall Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Ramage officiating. Burial followed in the Walthall Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was from 1PM till 2PM Friday at the church before the service. Pallbearers include Kenny Carmichael, Dannie Lewis, Joe Hays, Donald Card, David Ellison, and Rodney Crowell. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Ray Caffey and Johnny Clanton.

Mrs. Crowell is survived by a daughter Tish (Ronald) Beni of Eupora; a son Jack (Sandy) Blanchard of Denver, CO; a step-son James (Amanda) Crowell of Lubbock, TX; 5 sisters: Charlotte Waters of Lubbock, TX, Ruth Webb of Eupora, Linda Vorse of Boise, ID, Diana Danforth of Portales, NM, and Katie Davidson of Elgin, OR; two brothers: Richard Caywood of Pagosa Springs, CO and Robert Caywood of Millerville, Canada. Mrs. Crowell is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Lori Rosipal of Cedar Park, TX; Charlie Crowell of Panama City, FL; and Allison Morris of Spring, TX; 8 great-grandchildren: Zachary Guinn of Boerne, TX; Tyler Keefe, Chelsea and Haley Rosipal of Georgetown, TX; Taylor and Kaitlyn Thomas and Austin Morris of Spring, TX; and Britney Crowell of Panama City, FL. and numerous nieces and nephews across the country.

Mrs. Crowell is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Crowell, a step-son Tim Crowell, a sister Jean Kuhn, and a grandson Jared Guinn.
