UMW honors Curry for service

For the WPT

Mathiston United Methodist Church is pastored by the Revs. Franklin Lowe and Roger Miller. Both have high praise for Susan Curry and the work she does to support the church. A presentation June 30 surprised Curry, and showed the staff and congregation’s appreciation for her efforts.

“Susan means everything to our church,” said Miller after the service. “She never expects anything in return for all the things she does and she very quietly makes a world of difference to us.”

“We are fortunate to have members like Susan,” echoed Lowe.

Curry’s work was recognized that Sunday at the church’s 11 a.m. service. Local United Methodist Women Razmus Circle president Jessie Frye presented her with a pin and a certificate of appreciation from the UMW.

“Susan goes above and beyond what is required of her. She serves on the UMW Nomination Committee and serves as our local UMW secretary, keeping our records straight and organizing our archives. She’s a very reliable and valuable asset,” said Frye.

UMW is the largest denominational faith organization for women fostering spirited growth, development, leadership and advocating of justice.

Curry moderated a Bible study for the church and can often be found in behind-the-scenes capacities as well as in leadership roles. Her easygoing, pleasant and dependable personality traits typify the UMW ideal. She is a member of the History Department faculty at East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew.
