A Webster County resident was killed Monday night in a two-car accident on Clarkson Road in the White Hill community.
The wreck occurred around 6:20 p.m. near White Hill Baptist Church, according to Webster County Chief Deputy Jeff Mann and Webster County 911 reports. The church is located at the intersection of Montevista and Clarkson roads.
Mann said at this time the cause of the accident is still under investigation. He did confirm that four people were involved, with two of those being transported to hospitals by ambulance, and one being airlifted by helicopter to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. The names of those injured were not being released at the time of this publication.
Webster County Coroner Steve Wells identified the fatality as Arnita Fields, 80, of 179 Fields Road. Wells pronounced her dead at the scene of the accident.
Other agencies that responded to the accident scene were the Clarkson and Walthall volunteer fire departments, NMMC-Eupora EMS, and MedStat air crew out of Winona. The Eupora Fire Department was also called in for backup duties.
Mann gave special thanks to all the agencies that responded to the emergency, and praised them for a job well done in a time of crisis.
Oliver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Fields, which were pending as of publication.
Monday’s fatal car accident was the second in the county in just over two weeks. Elaine Oswalt Perry, 75, of Ackerman was killed June 15 in a rear-end collision on U.S. 82 about 3 miles west of Mathiston.
