Sales tax revenues in Eupora and Mathiston were down in April from the same month last year, new reports show.
The city of Eupora received a transfer of $32,951 from the Mississippi Department of Revenue. That’s down 17.4 percent from the $39,887 received in April 2012.
For the fiscal year to date (since July 1), the city has received $378,828 in sales tax revenue, compared with $408,785 for the previous fiscal year up to April, a decrease of 7.32 percent.
In Mathiston, April collections were $18,744, which is 14.42 percent below the $21,904 collected a year earlier. Fiscal year-to-date collections are $171,629, a decrease of 5.12 percent from the $180,892 collected during the same period last year.
Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.
These figures reflect other area taxes collected on April sales with 2012 figures in parentheses:
• Maben: $6,530 ($7,115)
• Mantee: $2,667 ($3,091)
• Walthall: $2,712 ($2,094)
