Lucille Ray Downing

Services for Lucille Ray Downing, 93, of Eupora were June 7, 2013, at Salem Independent Methodist Church near Ackerman with the Revs. Lynn Downing, Jim Reed and Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in French Camp Cemetery.

She was born June 21, 1919, to the late William Fayette and Nannie McIntire Ray. Mrs. Downing was a former secretary at French Camp Academy. She died June 3, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora’s Long Term Care.

Survivors include a son, Lynn Downing of North Carolina; a daughter, Mary Ida Harper of North Carolina; and two sisters, Bobbie Nell Jenkins and Lura McCulloch of Ackerman.

Memorials may be made to the Salem Independent Methodist Church Building Fund or French Camp Academy.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

 

Charles E.

‘Red’ King

June 5, 2013

Services for Charles E. “Red” King, 82, were June 8, 2013, at South Union Methodist Church near Ackerman with the Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born June 9, 1930, in Choctaw County. Mr. King was a carpenter/roofing contractor and member of Chester Baptist Church. He died June 5, 2013, at his residence in Ackerman.

Survivors include his wife, Mae King of Ackerman; three sons, Frank King of Laurel, and Mike King and Rusty King of Ackerman; a daughter, Pam Simpson of Ackerman; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the South Union Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Jeff Montroy

June 8, 2013

Services for Jefferson Lafette “J.L.” Montroy Jr., 76, of Eupora were June 10, 2013, at Lollars Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Willy Weddle and Mike Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jeff was born June 29, 1936, to the late Jefferson Lafette Montroy Sr. and Erma Starnes Montroy in Eupora. He graduated in 1955 from Mathiston High School and attended Memphis State University. Mr. Montroy was employed with Bryan Foods for more than 20 years, and worked as a consultant for meat packaging plants in Detroit and Los Angeles before retiring. He was a member of Lollars Grove Baptist Church and served 11 years in the Army National Guard. He died June 8, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include a son, Charles Robert Montroy of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Melissa “Missy” Orman of West Point; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren

Pallbearers were Hilton Gibson, Van Johnson, Tim Littlejohn, Mike Mitchell, J.C. Montroy and Caleb Yeager.

Dillard Wright

June 8, 2013

Services for Haven Dillard Wright, 93, were June 11, 2013, at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Paul Ellison officiating. Burial was in Clarkson Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Webster County, he was the son of the late James Wiley and Dora Orman Wright. Mr. Wright worked for Babcock and Wilcox in West Point for more than 30 years and farmed well into his ’70s. He died June 8, 2013.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Eileen Graves Wright; a daughter, Pamela W. Vedros of Vicksburg; a son, James B. Wright of Mantee; a sister, Burlene W. Henley of Mantee; and a granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Haven Ellison, Jerry Ellison, Ronnie Ellison, Tim Hamilton, Erwin Henley and Kerry Henley.
