Fifty of some of the best high school baseball players played in Busch Stadium on June 14, and this was the first year for the Illinois-Missouri All-Star Baseball Game to be played under the lights.

Busch Stadium is the home of the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. From this game, which is played each year, have come many young players who have gone on to play professional baseball.

Playing for Illinois All-Stars this year was Edwardsville (Ill.) High School player Zack Sparks.

He is the son of Susan Whitsell Rolens. Zack is the great-grandson of the late James Mack Harpole, who many people will remember living near the present Gilliland’s Piggly Wiggly, and who served as marshal of Mathiston for many years.
