Voters in Eupora and other local municipalities go the polls next week to elect officials for the next four years.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, for municipal general elections statewide. The deadline for absentee voting in person is Saturday, when city clerks’ offices will be open from 8 a.m. until noon, including at Eupora City Hall.

Three candidates are vying for mayor of Eupora. They include Republican incumbent Tommy Lott, who is seeking re-election to a third term.

Independent Dan Burchfield is also running for mayor after four terms on the Board of Aldermen. The retired teacher serves as the city’s alderman-at-large. Democratic mayoral candidate Lamar Dumas, who is retired from the Natchez Trace Electric Power Association, is a lineman instructor at Holmes Community College.

Seeking to replace Burchfield as alderman-at-large are Sherman Butler (Democrat), Gerald C. “Jerry” Gary (Independent) and Chad Winter (Republican).

Candidates for Ward 1 alderman are incumbent Vickey Patterson (Democrat) and James Shaw Jr. (Independent).

Alderman Billy Brister did not seek re-election in Ward 2, which has three candidates: Charles Clark (Democrat), David Dabbs (Republican) and Howard Rumore (Independent).

Ward 3 has four candidates for alderman, including incumbent Alvin L. “Buster” Duvall (Independent), who was appointed in January to fill an unexpired term. His opponents are board attorney Hugh Gibson (Independent), Donna Griffin (Democrat) and Blake McMullen (Republican).

Robert Gibbs was elected Ward 4 alderman in the Democratic primary on May 7 and faces no opposition in the general election. He will replace incumbent Hank Flowers, who did not seek re-election.

Other Towns

In Mathiston, Mayor Jimmy Carden is unopposed and will serve another term. Candidates for the five-member board of aldermen are Matthew Carden, Jill Carroll, Earl Frost, Sharon Fulgham, Jeff Haney, Betty Christopher Jeffcoats, Lavelle McAlpin and Harvey Pinnix. Carden, Frost, Haney, McAlpin and Pinnix are all incumbents.

Candidates for marshal are incumbent Roger Miller and Shane Box.

Maben Mayor Larry L. Pruitt is also unopposed for another term. Seven people for running for the five aldermen seats in Maben: incumbents Darrell Bryant, Patty C. Harpole, Rufus Harris, Robert J. Herd and Harvey Jones, along with William T. “Terry” Harpole and Linda Dianna Washington.

The only contested race in Walthall is that for marshal. The two candidates are Casey Henderson and Barry Rushing Sr. Marshal Benny Neal did not seek another term.

Walthall Mayor Belinda Stewart is unopposed for re-election and only five people are running for the five aldermen posts: incumbents Glendolyn Crowell, Rodney Crowell and Sherlene Stewart, plus Isom L. “Buzz” Busby and Jeffrey Tabb.

The village of Mantee will not have an election because all incumbents are unopposed, Town Clerk Eddie Norman previously said. They are Mayor Mary Frances Baker, and aldermen Kim Davis, William Gilliland, Barbara Pumphrey, Jimmy Stevens and John Williams.
