The cause of a blaze that destroyed a Peppertown Road home last week
is undetermined, according to Walthall Fire Chief Casey Henderson.
The Rev. Johnny and Nancy Lollar lost everything in the fire that
destroyed their home the night of April 15. Henderson said no one was
home when the fire started; a family member who lives there pulled up
to find the house burning about 9:50 p.m.
Henderson said the house was 50 percent involved when the first units
arrived. Firefighters entered the wood-frame house to try to
extinguish the fire, he said, but were forced back out by high winds
that were feeding the flames.
“The wind was feeding the fire and made it an extremely hot fire,”
The Walthall Fire Department led the attack with Eupora,
Bellefontaine and Mathiston fire departments supporting. They were on
scene about 3½ hours.
Lollar is pastor of Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church, which will host a
miscellaneous shower for the Lollars at 2 p.m. Sunday.
