Treatment of stroke can be more effective if given early on. Every
Stroke is an emergency, so ACT F.A.S.T.!
F: Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
A: Arms: Have the person to raise both arms. Does the one arm drift
S: Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Is the speech
slurred? Can he/she repeat the sentence correctly?
T: Time: Call 9-1-1 if you see or have any of these symptoms.
Once a stroke has occurred, tests help determine the type of stroke
and its cause or causes so treatment can be planned. Medications may
be prescribed to help prevent additional strokes.
It is essential that all medications be taken as prescribed. Never
stop taking any stroke medication without your doctor’s approval.
