Teen cyclist injured in crash

From Staff Reports

A 15-year-old was injured last week after he was hit by a car while
riding his bicycle in Eupora.

The accident happened about 7:20 p.m. Friday at highways 182 and 9
(Roane Avenue and Veterans Memorial Boulevard).

Police Chief Gregg Hunter said the male bicyclist, who was not
identified because of his age, was riding eastbound through the
intersection. Witnesses reported that he ran the red light and was
struck by a 2005 Nissan Altima, said Hunter, who noted that it was
turning dark at the time.

North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora EMS transported the youth to
the hospital and he was airlifted to NMMC in Tupelo, where he was
treated and released Saturday.

Hunter said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet when he was hit.
No citations were issued.
