Eupora will soon have a new retail hardware store with the expected
opening of Nabors Do it Best Home Center by May 1.

Located at 1515 Veterans Memorial Blvd. (Highway 9 South), the store
and lumber yard will encompass the lot that formerly housed Dollar
City, a vacant building that was owned by Central Mississippi Inc. of
Winona and the old Coleman’s Bar-B-Q building.

“The hospitality I have experienced has been amazing,” owner Lee
Nabors said during the Feb. 26 meeting of the Eupora Rotary Club, at
which he was guest speaker. “I am so excited to be here.”

He also owns Nabors Home Center in Houston. Nabors cited various
assets of Eupora in deciding to expand his business here, including
Eupora’s schools, hospital and infrastructure (four-lane highway).

“I wanted to be a part of it. … It all came together,” said Nabors,
who also expressed thanks to Mayor Tommy Lott for his help.

Nabors Home Center is a member of the Do it Best cooperative, which
is the second largest co-op buying group in the United States. A
third-generation hardware store, Nabors Home Center was named
Chickasaw County 2010 Business of the Year.

Nabors bought out Nu-Way Cash & Carry in Eupora, which was also a
member of the Do it Best co-op. Nu-Way, which was located at 634 W.
Fox Ave., closed Feb. 22 and was auctioned off March 2.

Nabors Do it Best in Eupora will be starting off with eight
employees, including Nu-Way’s Jody Johnson as store manager. It will
sell hardware, lawn and garden supplies, and will include a paint
center and lumber yard. A greenhouse is scheduled to be added next year.

The store will have 6,000 square feet of retail space and 12,000
square feet of lumber space, according to Nabors.
“It’ll be a store you can be a proud of,” he told Rotarians.
