City sales tax revenue flat

Eupora’s sales tax revenue for January was flat compared with the
same month last year, new reports show.

The city received a transfer of $32,778 from the Mississippi
Department of Revenue. That’s $68, or a fraction of 1 percent, up
from the $32,710 received in January 2012.

For the fiscal year to date (since July 1), the city has received
$279,972 in sales tax revenue, compared with $298,409 for the
previous fiscal year up to January, a decrease of about 6.2 percent.

In Mathiston, January collections were $13,559, which is 12.3 percent
less than the $15,465 collected a year earlier. Fiscal year-to-date
collections are $121,960, a decrease of 5.5 percent from the $129,068
collected during the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and
municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.

These figures reflect other area taxes collected on January sales
with 2012 figures in parentheses:
• Maben: $5,905 ($6,929)
• Mantee: $2,759 ($2,096)
• Walthall: $1,822 ($2,057)
