In August, the Eupora High School Baseball Boosters assembled to make
plans for the baseball program for the upcoming school year. At this
meeting the boosters were introduced to new Head Coach Brad Mitchell.
As a result of the discussions about the directions the program
needed to take for the future, plans were made for a new baseball
facility, including a dressing room with attached covered batting
cages and a spring break trip to play baseball in Florida. After
various fundraisers, the trip to Florida is scheduled, and the new
facility is under construction.
As a fundraiser for the new facility, the Baseball Boosters hosted
the second First Pitch Banquet on Feb. 11. Former Mississippi State
Head Baseball Coach Ron Polk was guest speaker. A silent auction
included sports memorabilia from all sporting areas.
Auction items included autographed baseballs from Mark Teixiera of
the Yankees, Tyler Moore of the Nationals and Hall of Famer Cal
Ripkin Jr. as well as autographed bats from big names in baseball.
There was also a Hugh Freeze autographed Ole Miss jersey and an
autographed MSU helmet from Thorpe Award recipient Johnthan Banks.
Devin Jones, an EHS graduate and Mississippi State baseball standout,
attended the event. The Baltimore Orioles drafted Jones in the 2011
MLB Amateur Baseball Draft.
“It was great to see former EHS baseball players, parents and the
community turn out for this event. This is something that we hope to
continue for years to come. It is great to get the community
involved,” said Laci Knight, principal at EHS.
The event, which was held to kick off the 2013 season, was a huge
success. Approximately 200 people attended the event and more than
$5,000 was raised for the program through ticket sales and the silent
“We want to thank everyone for attending; it was a great night for
Eupora baseball” Mitchell said.
