Sales tax revenue drops in December

December sales tax collections were down in Eupora and Mathiston,
according to the latest Mississippi Department of Revenue report.

Eupora’s December sales tax revenues were $36,347, a 31.5 percent
decrease from $53,111 in December 2011.

Collections since the 2013 state fiscal year began July 1 total
$247,194, a 7 percent decrease from the $265,699 the city collected
during the same period last year.

In Mathiston, December collections were $16,147, about 3 percent less
than the $16,608 collected in December 2011. Fiscal year-to-date
collections are $108,401, a decrease of 4.5 percent from the $113,602
collected during the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and
municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.

These figures reflect other area taxes collected on December sales
with 2011 figures in parentheses:
• Maben: $6,901 ($7,425)
• Mantee: $3,603 ($2,454)
• Walthall: $1,423 ($2,213)
