Mozelle Waits Murphy

Mozelle Waits Murphy, 95, passed away at her residence in Eupora on February 12, 2013. She was born on Dec. 2, 1917 to Oscar and Alma Waits in the Mt. Vernon Community of Webster County. She was the 6th of 8 children. She graduated from Center Elementary School and Eupora High School. On July 26, 1942 she married Dave Murphy.

She worked for Miss. State Extension Service as a Nutrition aide. Her proudest accomplishment was providing a loving Christian home for her husband and three children.

She loved to keep a clean house. She said, “My older brothers had to work in the field with Papa, my older sister had to help Momma prepare the meals; but, it was my job to help clean the house.” She also loved to work in her flowers and in the vegetable garden. Having experienced the Great Depression first hand, she believed in ‘saving’ because you never know when you might need it. Several friends said of her, “she never complained.” In the latter part of her life she was blessed with great caregivers and two small white rescue dogs who were her constant companions.

She had no fear of dying. Her strong Christian faith helped sustain her through all life’s difficulties. She loved life and laughter. She faced life’s challenges with a certainty that God would sustain her regardless of the circumstances. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eupora, Miss. A great joy of hers was the fun and fellowship of the TEL Sunday school class. She also helped in the church nursery in her younger years.

Services for Mrs. Murphy were at 2:00 PM Saturday February 16, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Eupora with Bro. Travis Gray officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation was from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM at the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave Murphy, and her 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She leaves her children: daughter, Carolyn Smith (husband Tom) of Aiken SC, daughter, Sandra Owens (husband Randy) of Edmond, OK, and son David Murphy of Eupora, MS. She had 4 grandchildren, Sandra Smith, Judi Saburi, Sara Thompson, and David Owens; and 1 great grandson. PAID OBITUARY
