Hughie E. Chandler Dec. 31, 2012 Services for Hughie Everette Chandler, 85, of Mountain View, Ark., formerly of Okolona, were Jan. 3, 2013, at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Mountain View. Burial followed in Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View. A memorial service was Jan. 5 at First Baptist Church, Okolona with the Rev. Roy McHenry officiating.

He was born March 5, 1927, in Webster County to the late Carl and Ora Lee Wright Chandler. Mr. Chandler was a member of First Baptist Church of Okolona for many years and a retired U.S. postal worker. He died Dec. 31, 2012, in Batesville, Ark.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Cox Chandler; a daughter Kay Chandler Bratton of Rome, Ga.; a son, Don Chandler of New Albany; a stepson, Dewey Cox of West Point; two brothers, Billy Chandler and Charles Chandler; a sister, Judy Johnson; seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Joy Doolittle Ross Jan. 21, 2013 A memorial service for Joy Doolittle Ross, 82, of Senatobia was Jan. 23, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Senatobia.

She was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Cadaretta to the late Rufus and Mary Doolittle. Mrs. Ross was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Senatobia. She died Jan. 21, 2013, at home.

Survivors include five children, Chris Ross, Stephen Ross, Marianne Parks, Jeffrey Ross and Elizabeth Jernigan; a sister, Jane Skelton; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church-Senatobia, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Palmer Home for Children (Columbus).

Mr. Loy W. Gammel Eupora, MS

Mr. Loy W. Gammel, 88, retired Mississippi Highway Patrolman, died December 29, 2012 at North Ms. Medical Center in Eupora, MS. Funeral services were held January 1, 2013 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Webster Memorial Garden Cemetery in Webster County. Rev. Travis Gray officiated.

Pallbearers were Jerry, DeWayne, Charles and James Gammel, Zachary and Jimmy Adkins. Honorary pallbearers were State of Mississippi Highway Patrol Officers.

Loy was a member of the Eupora First Baptist Church, a Navy Veteran and a Mason. He served as a Mississippi Highway Patrolman for twenty five years.

He is survived by his wife, Waunell “Nell” Gammel, Eupora, MS; two sons, Steve L. (Sherry) Gammel, and Phil Gammel both of Eupora, MS; a brother, Wava Gammel, Edison, NJ; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Clara E. “Marter” Hitt

Clara E. “Marter” Hitt of Spring Hill, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the age of 75 years old after a 18 year long fight with cancer.

Clara was born in Sweatman, MS on January 16, 1937 to (Father) Ira Ernest Marter & (Mother) Mary Roxie “Jordan” Marter of Duck Hill, MS. She graduated from Alva High School in 1955. She married Fred “Norman” Hitt of Eupora, MS on December 26, 1955. Once Married they moved to Flint/Swartz Creek, Michigan where they lived for 32 years, then retired in January 1986 and moved to Spring Hill, FL.

She was an active member of the Gulfcoast Artist Club and was very talented painter. However her main interest was as a Christian. She was a very talented church Pianist for which she served her Lord at both Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, MI & also at Aripeka Baptist Church in Spring Hill, FL. She also enjoyed working with the churches children’s department with all of their musical needs. Clara was all about GOD, Family, Friends & Serving her Lord through Church and in her Life.

Her funeral service was held at Aripeka Baptist Church in Aripeka, FL on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Her Son-in-law, Pastor Dan Louman, was privileged to preach her services assisted by her Pastor, Bro. Joe Sims. At her funeral 2 people came to know Christ as their personal Savior!

Clara was preceded in death by her parents (Ernest 1900-1978 & Mary Roxy Marter 1904-1991); sister, (Ruth Aline Marter 1929) and sister (Mary Louise Marter/McDonald/ Cieslak 1931-2008).

Clara is survived by and Dearly Missed by, Fred “Norman” Hitt, her Loving Husband of 57 years of marriage; son, James Richard Hitt and wife, Nancy of Spring Hill, FL; and daughter, Lisa Hitt/Louman and husband, Dan, of Swartz Creek, MI; granddaughters, Jackie Louman/ McCuistion and husband, Micah of Midlothian,TX, Kelly Hitt/Rivera and husband, Leo of Madison, WI, Vicky Hitt of Madison, WI and Mary Hitt of Spring Hill, FL; great granddaughters, Eiley McCuistion – 2 years and Leah Rivera – 5 months. Mr. J.V. Swindle Magee, MS

Mr. J. V. Swindle, retired High School Administrator, Educator and Coach, died Jan. 26th, 2013 at the Ms. State Veterans Home in Collins, MS. Funeral services were at 10:00 AM Tuesday Jan. 29th at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Choctaw County, MS with burial in the Church Cemetery. Bro. Danny Swindle, J. E. Swindle, Tommy Swindle and Bro. Buddy Keys officiated.

Pallbearers were Dave Eldridge, Oliver Tann, James Riddell, Wade, Don, Robert, Randy, Tommy, Jimmy, Michael, Tim, Eric, Dewayne, Carl and Curtis Swindle. Honorary pallbearers were former classmates, teammates, and athletes.

J. V. was a member of the First Baptist Church in Magee, MS and was an Air Force Veteran. He was an outstanding, High School and College athlete, playing for the U. S. Air Force Football Team, then going on to play at Holmes Junior College, then Delta State University. While playing in the Air Force, he was a member of the Far East Championship Team, winning the Championship in the “Rice Bowl” in 1957, where he was the MVP. He received many other awards while playing for the Air Force when was stationed at Johnson Air Base in Japan. J. V. worked for thirty six years in various school systems as a coach, teacher and administrator. The students and athletes at Charleston High School, Bruce High School, Calloway High School in Jackson, Kirk Academy in Grenada, West Point High School and Shannon High School were blessed with his guidance. He gave his life helping students and young athletes to become men.

J. V. is survived by his wife, Shirley Floyd Swindle, Magee, MS; two daughters, Shae Swindle Baria, Magee, MS and Sherie (Timothy) Alexander, Richland, MS; a son, Jay F. (Lynn) Swindle, Ellisville, MS a brother, J. E. (Lucy) Swindle, Pontotoc, MS; two brothers in law, Charles (Betty) Austin and David (Frankie) Eldridge; three sisters in law, Jeanette, Boots and Mavis Swindle; seven grandchildren; Swayze Swindle, Alden Swindle, James Bailey Alexander, Alex Alexander, Coleman Hendren, Stephen Baria and Jess Baria; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Guither, Ershell, Oren, Euless, Huvis, Ralph, Royce, Rex, Clastal, and James Swindle. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of all arrangements. PAID OBITUARY
