Willie Mae McHan Blackwood Dec. 25, 2012 Services for Willie Mae McHan Blackwood, 88, were Dec. 28, 2012, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in Enon Cemetery.
She was born June 23, 1924, to the late Plezie and Tommie Lou Black Collier in Choctaw County. Mrs. Blackwood served as election commissioner for many years, and owned and operated Blackwood’s Grocery in Ackerman. She also managed Fentress Grocery for many years. Mrs. Blackwood was a member of Chester Baptist Church. She died Dec. 25, 2012, at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Frances Stacy of New Albany; two sons, Alvin Reed McHan Jr. of Hernando and Douglas Allen McHan of Ackerman; a brother, James Collier of Ackerman; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Black, Frank Black, J.W. Black, Tommy Curtis, Wade Henson and Pete Smith.
Bobbie Jean Veazey Dec. 27, 2012 Services for Bobbie Jean Veazey, 80, of Weir were Dec. 29, 2012, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Curtis Guess officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery near Weir.
She was born Oct. 9, 1932. Mrs. Veazey was a homemaker and member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She died Dec. 27, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Ackerman.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Writ Edmonds and Tony Nathaniel Edmonds; a stepson, Charles Elwyn Veazey; two stepdaughters, Linda Sue Nevens and Brenda K. Stone; a brother, James “Bubba” Weeks of Weir; a sister, Wilma Steed of Indianola; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
Mary Russell Spraberry Duck Hill, MS
Mary Russell Spraberry “Gran”, age 91, formerly of Bellefontaine, MS, died December 24, 2012 at the home of her son in Duck Hill, MS. “Miss Gran” was born March 6, 1921 in Grenada County. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Bellefontaine, MS.
Gran was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Spraberry.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Kay Vance (L.C.) of Southaven, MS, Johnnie Sue Livingston (Carl) of Sumter, S. C.; one son, Robert Perry Spraberry (Pat) of Duck Hill, MS; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Services were at 2 p.m. December 27, 2012 in the chapel of Oliver Funeral Home, Eupora, MS, with burial following in North Union Cemetery in Webster County. Officiating the services was Dr. Allen Simpson of Amory, MS. Visitation was at the funeral home from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Dec. 27, 2012.
Pallbearers were Jody Doler, Robbie Parks, Ashley Parks, Alfred Pittman, Vance Livingston, Josh Livingston, Phillip Woods, and Kobin Worthy. Honorary pallbearers were Catlin Doler, Drew Parks, and Zachary Parks.
Memorials may be made to Mississippi Children’s Home, American Cancer Society, or Fellowship Baptist Church, Bellefontaine, MS. A special thank you to her friend and caregiver, Mrs. Army Forrest, Winona, MS.
Larry Paul Sones Brandon, MS
Larry Paul Sones, 70, of Brandon, died December 26, 2012. A Memorial Service was held at 11am. on Sat. Dec. 29, 2012 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with visitation being held prior to the service from 9 am.-10:45 am.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sones of Eupora.
Honorary Pallbearers were his sons, Mitch Sones, Michael Sones, and Will Sones; his sons-in-law, Troy Nunn and Rob Ormsby and his nephews, Paul Sones and Brian Woodruff.
Larry was an Alpha Tau Omega at Mississippi State University and member of the School of Architecture’s first graduating class. He practiced architecture for over 35 years and owned Larry Sones, Architects. Although he built and designed a variety of commercial buildings, his specialty was houses of worship. He loved his work and serving his Lord. Larry was an active member of First Assembly of God in Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Woodruff Sones; three sons, Mitchell, Michael, and Will Sones; three daughters, Kelly Ormsby, Kimberly Nunn, and Deanna Sones; and brother Pete Sones, of Daphne, Alabama. Larry has seven grandchildren, Precious Sones, Hannah and Emily Abdou, Ian Ormsby, and Olivia, Tyler, and Stella Nunn.

Mr. Brewer Henson
Mr. Brewer Henson, 83, died December 25th. 2012 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, Ms. Funeral Services were held 11:00 AM Friday, December 28 at the New Haven Baptist Church in Choctaw County with burial in the Church Cemetery.
Rev. Bobby Parish and Rev. Paul Cain officiated.
Pallbearers were: Earl and Bryan Lucas, David, Jeffery and Charlie Hutchison, and Kyle Stringer.
Mr. Henson was a member of the New Haven Baptist Church. He worked at McClure Furniture in Eupora for many years and was owner and operator of H & S Grocery Store in Choctaw County for over seventeen years.
He is survived by his wife; Jearline “Jerri” Erwin Henson, Weir, Ms., two daughters; Jo Ann (Earl) Lucas, Weir, Ms. and Linda (David) Hutchison, Weir, Ms., four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Charlie and Ollie Henson and a brother; Edward Reed Henson.
Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of all arrangements.
