From Staff Reports
Grand jurors in Webster County issued 18 indictments last week in Circuit Court.
The grand jury, which was empaneled in June and recalled Dec. 11, examined 27 cases.
According to its report signed by foreman Kenny May, the grand jurors questioned 14 witnesses.
As a result of their investigations, they returned into open court 23 true bills on 18 indictments.
Three matters were no-billed and one matter was remanded as a misdemeanor, the report stated.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to hold a trial.
The next term of Circuit Court begins Jan. 14, when a new grand jury will be empaneled. Circuit Judge Cem Morgan will preside.
