City sales tax revenue up in Oct.

City sales tax collections in October were up over the same month a year earlier.

Sales tax revenue collected in Eupora in October was $33,927. This represents a 10.6 percent increase of $3,242 from the $30,685 collected in October 2011.

Collections since the 2013 fiscal year began July 1 total $176,316, down only about half a percent from the same period last year.

In Mathiston, October collections were $14,813, down 8.6 percent from $16,215 in October 2011. Fiscal year-to-date collections are $77,210, a decrease of 4.8 percent from the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.

These figures reflect other area taxes collected on October sales with 2011 figures in parentheses: • Maben: $5,944 ($6,336) • Mantee: $3,267 ($2,672) • Walthall: $1,743 ($1,976)
