W. Oktibbeha honored with football recognition

Although the West Oktibbeha Timberwolves’s season did not turn out as anticipated, several Timberwolves earned postseason honors to commemorate their outstanding 2012 MHSAA football season.

With the end of the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2012 football season, the Mississippi Association of Coaches recently announced the Class 1A All-State teams. In addition, the All-Region teams in Region 3-1A were also released.

All-State West Oktibbeha had four standout seniors that were selected as Class 1A All-State players.

Senior Von Smith was named Class 1A first team quarterback.

Smith completed 85 passes this season for 1490 yards with 21 passing touchdowns. Smith had 52 carries for 581 yards with five rushing touchdowns.

Fellow senior Tiberias Lampkin was named second team running back.

Lampkin led West Oktibbeha’s rushing attack this season with 195 carries for 1982 yards with 32 touchdowns.

Michael Graise, defensive end, and Johnny Chambers, defensive tackle, were selected for second team All-State defense.

Graise had 57 stops, four sacks, one interception and a fumble recovery this season.

Chambers had 55 stops, 10 sacks and four fumble recoveries.

All-Region Lampkin was chosen as the offensive player of the year in Region 3-1A.

West Oktibbeha All-Region players include Von Smith, Michael Graise, Tiberias Lampkin, Lavontae Tate and Johnny Chambers.

Honorable mentions include Johnathan Love, Kelsey Jefferson, Donovan Henderson and Davarius West.
