The Eupora Patriots 11- and 12-year-old team won the first-place trophy in the Sweet Potato Bowl in Vardaman on Nov. 3.
The team played three playoff games, winning against Calhoun City, Lafayette and in the final round against the Vardaman Cowboys by a score of 24-22 to become the Sweet Potato Bowl champions.
The Patriots thanked Coach Fred Evans for all his hard work and dedication, and all parents for their support. “Farewell to all our 12-year-olds. Good luck in everything you do,” a team representative stated.
The team expressed a special goodbye to Kieem Bell, Kaliha Holmes (linebacker) and Phillip Weeks (quarterback, linebacker, kicker and punter), who each played with Coach Evans for five years; and Cameron Townsend, who played four years as cornerback and wide receiver.
