Alice Blackman Dec. 7, 2012 Services for Alice Blackman, 67, of Weir were Dec. 10, 2012, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Rev. Tim Long officiating. Burial was in Chester Cemetery.

She was born March 8, 1945, in Choctaw County. Mrs. Blackman was a factory worker and member of Salem Independent Methodist Church. She died Dec. 7, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Blackman West of Weir; a sister, Emma Billingsley of Huntsville, Ala., and one grandson. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Ottis Busby Dec. 5, 2012 Services for Ottis Busby, 96, were Dec. 9, 2012, at Chester Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in Enon Cemetery.

He was born July 15, 2012, in Choctaw County. Mr. Busby was a self- employed farmer and member of Chester Baptist Church. He died Dec. 5, 2012, at Vickers Personal Care Home in Mathiston.

Survivors include a brother, John Howard Busby of Eupora; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Chester Baptist Church.

Conway Manus Dec. 1, 2012 Services for Conway Manus, 29, of Eupora were Dec. 6, 2012, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Revs. James Richardson and Ricky Holloway officiating. Burial was in Greensboro Cemetery.

Mr. Manus was a member of West Shady Grove Baptist Church. He died Dec. 1, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include two daughters, Olivia Kate Manus and Kristen Ariel Manus of Picayune; three brothers, William Manus of Merrimack, N.H., Bradford Manus of Gulfport and Ralph Manus of Pearl; his parents, Carl “Junior” Manus Jr. and Lois Hester Manus of Eupora; his grandmother, Waunell Hester of Eupora; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Cameron, Jeff Fulgham, Donald Harrison, Stanley Harrison, David Lane, Clint McCain, Ricky Nail, Roger Peeples, Randy Rico and Charles Rivers.

James Edward Upchurch Dec. 7, 2012 Services for James Edward Upchurch, 83, of Ackerman were Dec. 10, 2012, at Chester Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Choctaw County. Mr. Upchurch was a bridge construction worker and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a member of Chester Baptist Church. He died Dec. 7, 2012, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Bruce Upchurch of Ackerman; two sons, Butch Upchurch of Madison and Jimmy Upchurch of Ackerman; a daughter, Angie Moncrief of Ackerman; a brother, Calton Upchurch of Ackerman; two sisters, Joyce Ann Dozier of Jackson and Mary Ethel McCarty of Ackerman; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Chester Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Building Fund.

Mrs. Kathy R. Edwards

Mrs. Kathy R. Edwards, 50, of Sturgis, MS passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012.

She was a graduate of Mississippi State University in 1989 and earned her nursing degree.

She is survived by her husband, Randolph Scott Edwards of Sturgis, MS; her father, Rev. Preston Bledsoe (Valetta) of Paducah, Kentucky; daughter, Tracy Davidson of Maben, MS; sons Trent Davidson of Maben, MS, and Joshua P. Davidson of Maben; and 3 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Kelly Bledsoe; 2 brothers and 1 sister.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.

Mr. John Elbert Hester Eupora, MS

Mr. John Elbert Hester, 58, heavy equipment operator, died December 6, 2012 at the Greenwood-Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, MS. Funeral Services were held 2:00 PM Monday Dec. 10th. at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Greensboro Cemetery in Webster County. Bro. Terry Wills and Bro. James Caffey officiated.

Pallbearers were Donald and Stanley Harrison, Randy Rico, Freddy Wayne Farley, Clint McCain and Bradford Manus.

He is survived by his mother, Waunell Hester; two sisters, Ruby (Robert) Howell, and Lois (Carl Jr.) Manus; and a brother, James Troy (Lessa) Hester; fifteen nieces and nephews and thirty three great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Hayes Hester.

Mrs. Lana Wieland

Mrs. Lana Wieland, 53, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at her home in Oak Forrest, IL. Funeral services were held 1:00 pm Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Marvin Hill Congregational Methodist Church in Cumberland. Burial followed in Marvin Hill Cemetery. Rev. Raleigh Richter officiated. Visitation was held from 5-8 pm Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of arrangements.

She was a homemaker. She is the former Lana Ponder of Cumberland. Lana was a beautiful person who loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was a devout and true believer in Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Jered Wieland; daughter, Heather Barton of Tuscaloosa, AL; sons Tracy (Danielle) Perkins of Clarkson, and Brett and Jordan Wieland of Oak Forrest, IL; mother, Fanell Ponder of Cumberland; sisters, Shirley (Raleigh) Richter of Cumberland and Linda (Glenn) Hamilton of Maben; grandchildren, Brooke and Connor Langford, Preston Hartness, and Kiersten, Stetson and Tristan Perkins; and niece, Paisley Hamilton of Starkville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Randolph Ponder.

Wilma (Crabtree) Lacy Swindle

Wilma (Crabtree) Lacy Swindle, age 89, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. She was born July 5, 1923 in Little Crab, Tennessee to the late George Martin and Frankie Brier (Reagan) Crabtree.

She attended Alvin C. York Institute in Jamestown, Tennessee and Holmes Jr. College in Mississippi where she earned her nursing assistant degree. She had worked as a nurses aid at Ball Memorial Hospital, Henry County Hospital and at Ball State. Wilma’s life was spent caring for others. She loved to cook, garden and take care of her family. Both the Lacy family and the Swindle families were loved and cared for by her and she will be lovingly remembered by them all.

She is survived by 4 children, Mary Saruwatori (Gary) of Clovis, CA, George Lacy (Barbara) of Spiceland, Elaine Petry (Jim) of Friant, CA, William Lacy (Millie) of Hawaii; step-daughter, Norma Jean Ellison (Jim) of New Castle; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Juanita Swindle of AL, Jeanette Swindle of TN, and Mavis Swindle of AL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Archie Lacy; second husband, Euless Swindle; a sister, Rose Stilipec; 4 brothers, Ewing, Joe, Johnny and Lester Crabtree.

Services were at 7:00 PM, Friday, December 7, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Cathy Harris officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 PM Friday prior to the service.
