By Betty Jeffcoats, President Civic League of Mathiston
MATHISTON — The town of Mathiston had its annual Christmas parade Saturday night and it was a huge success.
We had 60-plus entries and had the biggest turnout that we’ve ever had. We had many first-timers in our parade and even though there was confusion in the lineup, overall it was a success. We appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone that participated.
Our grand marshals for this year’s “A Caroling We Go” were area cancer survivors and their families. We appreciate them participating on the Civic League’s float and we join in their happiness of what God’s done in their lives.
We gave three cash prizes to our first-, second- and third-place winners, and we congratulate them. First place goes to East Webster High School’s band, second place goes to the East Webster Elementary fourth- and fifth-grade peewee football conference champions and cheerleaders, and third goes to Lindie Lou’s snowcone and ice cream stand.
The Civic League could not have done this parade without the help of God, first and foremost, and our committee members, all of whom are just the greatest bunch of folks you’ll ever meet.
We would also like to thank Mathiston Fire Department for helping us in every way imaginable. You guys are the greatest. We would also like to thank the mayor and Board of Aldermen for always backing our committee and always being behind us.
Until next year, from the hearts of the Civic League members, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
