Air Force major presents flag to coach

Maj. Gibb Gary of the U.S. Air Force presented an American flag to Head Coach Junior Graham for the 2011 and 2012 Eupora High football teams before the North Championship game at Wofford Field on Nov. 23.

Gary is the son of Shirley Gary of Eupora and the late Jackie Gary. He is the uncle of current Eupora High School football players Beau Smith and Jack Smith.

Gary is a 1987 graduate of EHS and a 1992 graduate of Mississippi State University. He completed ROTC at MSU and entered the Air Force as a captain in 1992.

Gary has been deployed in international combat on six different occasions, including 2003 in the Gulf War, and 2004 and 2006 in the Afghanistan War. For the past year he has been in Kabul, Afghanistan, serving as Gen. John Allen’s staff air planner.

Gary returned home Oct. 31 and resides in Tampa, Fla., with his wife, Tracy, and their six children.

Gary has been repeatedly decorated by the Air Force, including the Air Combat Medal in the Gulf War, Meritorious Service Award in the Gulf War, Special Meritorious Service Award for service in Afghanistan and most recently the Air Force Special Achievement Medal.

The United States flag presented to the football team was flown on board a C130 aircraft supporting Allen over Afghanistan.

Eupora is proud of its son, Maj. Gibb Gary, a true American hero.
