Sales tax revenue drops 6.3 percent

City sales tax collections in September were down while those in Mathiston showed an increase over the same month a year earlier.

Sales tax revenue collected in Eupora in September was $34,566. This represents a 6.3 percent decrease of $2,328 from the $36,894 collected in September 2011.

Collections since the 2013 fiscal year began July 1 total $142,389, down 2.9 percent from the same period last year.

In Mathiston, September collections were $15,822, up 4.4 percent from $15,158 in September 2011. Fiscal year-to-date collections are $62,397, a decrease of 2.3 percent from the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.
