Relay for Life 2013 planning starts

By Relay for Life Steering Committee

This community has been blessed with overwhelming support from a multitude of individuals and groups for Relay for Life. It is the hope of the steering committee that the remainder of this year and next will not be an exception.

On Nov. 12, Area Director Lynn Irby and Community Representative Bethany Cooper, both with the American Cancer Society, guided the steering committee as it made plans for the 2013 event.

The planning team voted to set a fundraising goal of $56,000 for our county.

This would surpass the goal set and reached last year. All team members present expressed a desire to not only increase the goal for this campaign, but to increase involvement in all of Webster County.

Along with the new goal, the team selected the theme for 2013: “Cancer Never Takes a Holiday,” which will give all Relay teams a host of possibilities for fundraising and planning activities. Exciting activities are already planned throughout the county and will be announced soon.

In the coming months, you may be approached by Webster County Relay for Life Co-Chairs Connie Ray Black and Toni Carole Powell or other team members. They will be giving you the opportunity to commit in a variety of ways to this most noble cause.

The next team captain committee meeting will be Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at NMMC-Education Room. Please make plans to attend if you or an organization you represent would like to be involved in Relay for Life. No one among us can say that cancer has not touched or invaded our lives in some way.

Please take a moment to reflect on your talents and gifts to determine how you can best serve your county in this endeavor to help win the battle with cancer.

We are looking for all of you to meet us at the NMMC walking track on April 26 at 6 p.m. Let’s work together, countywide, to make this one spectacular event!
