Quick Bites Dr. Wayne Porter, area horticulturist, will present the Quick Bites program “All About Camellias” from noon-1 p.m. Nov. 15. Civic League children’s hour in Mathiston The Civic League of Mathiston will be having its monthly children’s hour on Nov. 20 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the library.

Members will be reading “Happy Thanksgiving Charlie Brown” plus watching the DVD. They will have crafts plus snacks. Also on this day, children’s author Whitney Yarber White of Eupora will read her first book, “Don’t Swallow the Baby Jesus.”

Whitney is a stay-at-home mom and lives in the New Hope community with her husband, Matthew, and their three little boys. She holds a degree in special education from MSU and taught developmentally delayed children in Calhoun City for two years upon graduating. In 2011, her second year of teaching, she received the Teacher of the Year award.

Catch-A-Dream Banquet Mississippi Sportsmen for Catch-A-Dream Annual Sponsors Banquet will be Nov. 20 at the Eupora National Guard armory. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The banquet will feature a seafood buffet dinner, raffle and auction. All proceeds will benefit the Catch-A-Dream Foundation.

Sponsor dinner tickets are $150 and child dinner tickets are $15 (ages 15 and under). All tickets are first come, first serve.

Civic League bake sale in Mathiston The Civic League of Mathiston will be having its annual pre- Thanksgiving bake sale on Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Members will be set up in front of Mathiston Cleaners and can help take some of the pressure of holiday baking off you. They will have made-from-scratch pies and cakes, cookies, brownies and Splenda sweet potato casseroles (for the diabetics), just to name a few things. “Please come out and support us plus get some tasty treats.”

Mathiston ‘Lighting in the Park’ The Civic League of Mathiston will be having a “Lighting in the Park” on Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m. All area churches are invited to participate and bring their choirs/ praise groups to sing Christmas carols. Any church that would like to set up a hospitality table and hand out snacks/drinks is invited to join in with the Civic League in giving back to the community. The Civic League will be handing out hot cocoa and Christmas cookies to everyone that night. It has also booked Kenneth and Sara Arnold for this night and they will be bringing their karaoke equipment to have Christmas karaoke.

This is a perfect way to kick off the Christmas season and it will be a family-oriented event, perfect for any age. Civic League members invite everyone to come join them for a fun-filled night. Bring your own lawn chair and a blanket. For more info, call Betty at 312-8724.

Citrus, apple sale under way Troop 30 Boy Scouts has started its fall citrus sale that will last through the month of November. Delivery of the citrus is scheduled for Dec. 9 or 12.

Florida fruit that will be offered: Hamlin oranges, navel oranges, tangelos and red grapefruit. These varieties will be offered in 2/5- bushel boxes (20 pounds) and 4/5-bushel boxes (40 pounds). The Scouts will also have a citrus trio box and a citrus mix box.

Washington state apples will also be sold. The apples offered are Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. The apples are available in bushel boxes only.

Christmas T-shirts The Civic League of Mathiston is selling 2012 Christmas T-shirts that are designed by Southern Belle. The shirts are red with traditional Christmas colors on the back and has snowmen caroling around the Christmas tree with the words “A Caroling We Go” The shirts are available in long or short sleeve, and sizes youth extra small up through adult 5X are available. Short sleeve are $13, long sleeve are $15. There is no date or town name on the shirts. For more information call 312-8724.

Eupora Christmas Parade The Eupora Christmas Parade will be Dec. 1 at 5:30 with the theme “Let Freedom Ring with the Bells of Christmas.” Billy Powell will serve as grand marshal.

Entry forms are available at the Progress-Times office (58 N. Dunn) and Eupora City Hall or from any member of the Eupora Rotary Club.

Completed forms should be returned by 5 p.m. Nov. 28, along with an entry fee of $10 for floats. Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m. along West Fox and West Clark avenues. The first-place float will be awarded $200 and second place $100.

Burlap Wreath Making Workshop The time for preparing and decorating our homes for the holiday season is quickly approaching.

Let Webster County Extension help you with your decorating needs. Join us at the Webster County Extension Office for a Burlap Wreath Making Workshop on Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. If you would like to attend call the Extension Office (258-3971) by Nov. 29. The workshop will cost $10 and that will cover the burlap and wire wreath. There are only eight slots, so act fast.

Mathiston Christmas Parade Mathiston’s 2012 Christmas Parade will be Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. with lineup beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Mathiston ballpark.

There is no entry fee to be in the parade. The theme for this year’s parade is “A Caroling We Will Go’ and the Civic League will be awarding $100, $75 and $50 prizes to first-, second- and third-place winners.

‘Cookies in a Jar’ workshops Homemade gifts in a jar are a fun way to celebrate the holiday season and can make great gifts for just about anyone.

Join us at the Webster County Extension Office for a “Cookies in a Jar” workshop. The workshops are free. The first workshop is Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m. for adults. Please call by Nov. 27; only 10 slots available.

Story Hour Story Hour at the Maben Public Library is every Friday at 10 a.m. Come enjoy stories, music and other fun learning experiences for ages 3 to 6.

Storytime Storytime at Webster County Public Library in Eupora is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 3-6 are invited to attend and enjoy stories and activities.

AA meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo at VFW Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

Longview Opry Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.
