The Eupora Eagles are hungry for a championship this season, and their record proves it.

The Eagles traveled to Durant last Friday night and ripped past the Williams-Sullivan Yellowjackets picking up a 55-0 shutout victory.

Eupora started scoring early in the game when sophomore quarterback Trey Pittman connected with senior wide receiver Jamall Roby on a nine-yard pass.

Senior tight end Savon Daughtery increased the Eagle lead minutes later with a run from seven yards out. Pittman found Roby for the extra points giving Eupora a 14-0 lead over Williams-Sullivan.

The final first quarter touchdown was added by senior running back Lazerick Davis on a 55-yard dash to the end zone. The Eagles took a 20-0 advantage into the second quarter.

Eupora struck again early in the second quarter when junior running back Javoris Draine pushed his way through Yellowjacket defenders to the end zone from the two yard line.

Sophomore running back Lamontae Salley led the Eagles in their blowout win scoring twice in the second quarter of the game both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Salley entered the end zone first on the 33-yard scamper. Salley followed it up catching an interception and running seven yards for the pick-six. Lewis provided both extra points and Eupora had a 41-0 momentum over the Yellowjackets at halftime.

In the second half of the game, the Eagles continued to score.

Junior Jaquille Wright and freshman Corson Gunn entered the end zone with rushing touchdowns to cap Eupora’s 55-0 win over Williams- Sullivan with Wright punching it in to convert the two points after the final touchdown.

Pittman was 3-8 through the air for 29 yards with one touchdown.

Roby had three receptions for 29 yards with one touchdown.

Davis led the rushing attack with three carries for 58 yards with one touchdown. Senior running back Vandy Smith had four carries for 44 yards while Daughtery had two carries for 34 yards. Salley had one carry for 33 yards with one touchdown. Derrick Jones had one carry for 18 yards, while Victor Goldman had three carries for six yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Draine had one sack. Goldman and Salley had one interception each while Patrick Marshall and Jarquez McBride each recovered a fumble.

Eupora obtained their ninth win of the season and remain undefeated in Class 2A, Region 2, District 4 meetings.

This Friday night will be crucial for the Eagles. To protect their first seed lead in division standings Eupora will travel to Cumberland to take on county rival the East Webster Wolverines and try to bring home another district victory.

The Wolverines will enter the matchup with an 8-2 overall record and a 3-1 record in division play.

The Eagles who currently top East Webster in region standings will enter the meeting with a 9-1 overall record and are undefeated in district matchups.

The rivalry was amplified several years ago when the two teams were placed in the same class, region, and district by the Mississippi High School Activities Association in 2009.

East Webster and Eupora have faced each other as both county and district rivals for the past three years. In these meetings, the Eagles have defeated the Wolverines twice.

East Webster recently defeated Hamilton, 24-0.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
