The Pride of Eupora Marching Band competed in the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Marching Festival in Grenada on Saturday.
This competition serves as a qualifying event for the MHSAA State Marching Competition. The band performed its 2012 program titled “A Dark and Stormy Night.” Song selections included “Little Red Riding Hood,” Lacrimosa,” “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and the theme from “Beetlejuice.”
The band was rated in four different categories by six different judges. Categories included Field Commander, Color Guard, Percussion and Band. Ratings were categorized as follows: Superior (I), Excellent (II), Average (III) and Fair (IV). Bands must receive an overall rating of Superior in order to compete in the state competition. Pride of Eupora’s ratings were as follows: Field Commander (I), Color Guard (I), Percussion (I) and Band (I, II, I) for an overall score of I.
The band will travel to Hoover, Ala., on Saturday for the Hoover Invitational Marching Festival. MHSAA State Competition will be Oct. 27 at Hinds Community College in Raymond.
