MABEN — Kathy Lollar has graciously loaned the Maben Public Library more than 50 of her music boxes to be put on display for public viewing.
Kathy says that she has been collecting for more than 40 years; her display started with a Santa Claus gift many years ago. So wherever she goes, the first souvenir she purchases will be a music box. She believes that she has one from every state. Amazing!
She has numerous snow globe ones filled with various objects of interest; some shaped like musical instruments, some ceramic birds, polar bears, Ferris wheels, a circus horse carousel, birds, a kaleidoscope, several that look like Hummel figurines, an Elvis Presley guitar, a Red Square Onion Top Citadel in Moscow, bale of cotton, a two-tone 1950s-era car and a Betty Boop. At least 50 boxes are on display.
The pelican bird music box came from the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans. The polar bear one came from the North Pole in Alaska; it in near Fairbanks. The mandolin one came from Greece.
The boxes will be on exhibit for a month; the public is invited to come by for a viewing.
