City sales tax revenue up

Eupora’s sales tax collections saw a slight percent increase in July.

The city posted July collections of $33,241, compared to $32,993 for the same month in 2011 — less than 1 percent. The city ended the state’s 2012 fiscal year — July 1, 2011 to June 31 — with an increase of $29,705 or 7.15 percent in sales tax collections over the previous year. Collections since the 2013 fiscal year began July 1 total $69,887, down $5,642 or about 7.5 percent from the same period last year.

In Mathiston, July collections were $14,822, down 11 percent from $16,657 from July 2011. Fiscal year-to-date collections are $31,594, a decrease of 5.1 percent from the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and the city receives sales tax money two months later.
