Church hosting ‘Miles for Missions’

By Dottie Dewberry For the WPT

MABEN — Maben First Baptist Church will be hosting a 5K run/walk event, “Miles for Missions,” on Oct. 6 starting at 8 a.m. and beginning in front of the church.

Note: 5K is ONLY 3 miles.

According to Wallace Sansing, an area businessman and an event coordinator, the event proceeds will be used to support local (in Maben) mission work; such as coats for students or things of that nature.

To register, packets can be picked up at the First Baptist Church secretary’s office. Interested participants can contact Sansing at 263-8228 or Brenda Temple at 617-1810 to secure a form or the church can e-mail a form to participants. The packets will include the registration form, the racer’s number, a physical waiver and various other brochures from the church and area businesses.

The entrance fee is $20 and includes a tee-shirt for each participant. To receive your tee-shirt by race day, registration must be done by Sept. 30.

Awards will be given to the Overall Male, Overall Female and age bracket winners. Brackets will follow a 10-year break: 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and above.

According to Sansing, the 5K course has been laid out; it will include some hills and valleys plus some flat straight a ways. There will be water stops along the way and refreshments will be served at the end of the race.

Interested parties that have more questions are welcomed to call the numbers listed above and talk to Brenda or Wallace. RUNNERS AND WALKERS ARE WELCOME.

Running is a mental sport and we are all insane.
