4 file for School Board seats Four people have qualified to run for two seats on the Webster County School Board.

District 3 candidates are Jimmy Hood and Naioma Lamb. Two-term incumbent Etty P. Brown is not seeking re-election. Running in District 4 are incumbent Scott Hollenhead and Cherraye Oats.

All four qualifiers met Friday’s deadline to submit petitions to be placed on the Nov. 6 general election ballot in their respective districts. In Mississippi, school board members run as non-partisan candidates and the term of office for county school board members is six years.

Voter registration deadline nears Deborah Hood Neal, circuit clerk for Webster County, announces that the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 general election is Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon.

“If you have never registered to vote in Webster County, this is the deadline to do so,” Neal said. Anyone with questions may contact the circuit clerk’s office at 258-6287.

City Christmas Parade Dec. 1 The Eupora Rotary Club has announced that the 2012 Eupora Christmas Parade will be Dec. 1. The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. that Saturday following the annual Christmas Market.

This year’s theme for the market and parade is “Let Freedom Ring with the Bells of Christmas.” Watch the Progress-Times for additional details about both.

Head Start parent meeting Sept. 18 The Eupora Head Start Center will have the first parent meeting of the school year at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18. The meeting will be at the center, which is located at 333 MS Hwy. 182. The meeting will include parent orientation and nominations for parent committee officers.
