Weight Watchers Weight Watchers is starting a new class beginning the week of Sept. 17 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora, in the hospital’s Education Room 1, 70 Medical Plaza. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

Mobile WIN Job Center The Mobile WIN Job Center will set up shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 in the “Garan” lot at Highway 9 South and Government Street in Eupora.

Project Fit America at EES Students and teachers at Eupora Elementary School will officially kick off the Project Fit American program at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 21.

The PFA physical fitness equipment and curriculum is funded through a grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield Mississippi Foundation.

Pickin’ at the Lake The 11th annual “Pickin’ at the Lake” will be Sept. 21 starting at 2 p.m. and Sept. 22 starting at 10 a.m. at the Grenada Lake spillway.

Bluegrass, gospel and old-time country/western music will be featured; acoustic instruments only. Pickers and listeners are welcome; admission is free — no alcoholic beverages. Crossroads Cruisers car club will provide concessions and proceeds will be used for local charity.

The weekend will include an antique vehicle and car show (no trophies). Call 226-8693 regarding campsites available at the lake or 226-4934 for cabin rentals.

Gospel singing A gospel singing will be at 6 pm. Sept. 22 at the Stewart fire station on U.S. 82. Performers will include Family Tradition from Alabama, Voices of Faith from Carrollton, Linda Odom of Mendenhall, Heavenly Journey of Crystal Springs and Joy Card of Eupora. A love offering will be received.

Sept. 13: Color in the Fall & Winter Garden Dr. Leila Kelly, Extension professor and consumer horticulture specialist. This program will help you learn how to use plants and landscaping techniques to liven up the landscape. You will see how using plants with colorful bark, berries, fruit or foliage can really make a difference.

Sept. 20: Minor Fruits in Mississippi Dr. Wayne Porter, Area Extension horticulturist. Dr. Porter will share the basics of growing unusual fruit in your garden.

Sept. 27: Growing Beautiful Landscape Plants Dr. Jeff Wilson, area Extension horticulturist. Summer is almost over and fall planting season is coming up! We will discuss how to plan for, purchase, select the best location, install and maintain beautiful landscape plants.

FM 108 Day 2013 FM 108 Day will be Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the campus of French Camp Academy. The day will feature fun, food, fellowship, door prize and a silent auction. Little Miss, Mr. Clay Co. Pageant The Little Miss and Mr. Clay County Pageant in honor of the late Doug and Petty Childs (his father) will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the West Point Civic Center. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to the winner of the 16-18 age group. Doug Childs was from Maben.

The pageant is open to boys and girls through age 18; they do not have to be residents of Clay County. Registration packets may be picked up at the Clay County chancery clerk’s office, Pheba One Stop, Cannon’s Corner or Sun Beauty. Registration forms and the $40 entry fee are due Oct. 1. Benefit for Joyce Pittman A drawing is scheduled for an H&R .35 Whelen Handi-Rifle with a 3x9x40 Nikon scope to benefit Joyce Pittman. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Church news

Mathiston Church of God car show Mathiston Church of God will host a car show on Sept. 15. Registration will be from 9-11 a.m. Trophies will be given at 3 p.m. for Best Car, Best Truck, Best Modified, Best Engine, Best Sound and Longest Distance Traveled. The show will feature classic cars and trucks, muscle cars, rat rods, originals and modifieds. Grilled food and snow cones will be available in an air-conditioned waiting area. The entry fee is $20. All proceeds go to the church building fund.

Maben COG Youth Celebration Maben Church of God, 3965 Crowley Drive, invites all youth to a Youth Celebration starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 and 16. Saturday’s activities will feature a waterslide and games, and a cookout from 2-6 p.m. The celebration will continue Sunday with speaking and singing by Lewis Maples Jr. and his sister, Lindsey Maples, from Lucedale.
