Youth, adults ‘Outwalk Obesity’

By Rose Coffey Graham, Leader Controllers Generation II 4-H Club

The Controllers Generation II 4-H Club, in conjunction with Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and other area churches, hosted its monthly “Outwalk Obesity” from Calahan’s Restaurant to West Oktibbeha County High School at 6 p.m. Aug. 20.

Principal Jeffery Grant greeted and welcomed the group when it arrived at the school, and Minister Franco Shields led prayer. After the group of about 40 exercised, the children and adults broke off into their sessions.

Julie White, Oktibbeha County Extension director, conducted the adult session, “Healthy, Wealthy and Wise” learning to improve financial health, increase wealth and make wise consumer choices. Shields and James Coffey Jr. led the children’s session, FREE (focus, restate, emphasize and explore solutions).

After the group assembled back together, Shayla Graham and Jona Wordlaw presented the summary for the children, and Raymond Poe and Cathleen Poe presented the summary for the adults. Cathleen is a club leader for Community Youth at Work.

The area Tobacco Coalition, Sonic and the Maben Lions Club provided door prizes.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 17. For more information, contact Rose Coffey Graham at 242-7962.
