James Raiford ‘Ray’ Abernathy Aug. 20, 2012 Services for James Raiford “Ray” Abernathy, 69, of Hurley, were Aug. 25, 2012, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hurley with Father Thomas Joseph and Deacon Frank Martin officiating. Burial was in Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula.
He was born Jan. 17, 1943, to the late Bessie Lee and Raiford W. Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy grew up in Tomnolen. He died Aug. 20, 2012, in Mobile, Ala., at Stacey Manor Assistance Living.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Abernathy of Hurley; a daughter, Elesha Garriga of Hurley; a son, Philip Abernathy of Fairhope, Ala.; and three grandsons.

Waymon Fondren Aug. 24, 2012 Services for Waymon Fondren, 89, of Mathiston were Aug. 27, 2012, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Revs. Guyton Montgomery and Danny Irvin officiating. Burial was in Blythe Creek Cemetery in Choctaw County.
Mr. Fondren was a sawmiller and member of Ackerman Church of Christ. He died Aug. 24, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Kay Watts of Sherwood; a son, Max Fondren of Sherwood; a sister, Kathleen Briggs of Nesbit; two brothers, Wayne Fondren of Oxford and John E. Fondren of Starkville; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were David Fondren, Dennis Fondren, Joe Fondren, Mack Fondren, Winky McAdams and David Williams.
Muriel A. Gillespie Aug. 22, 2012 Graveside services for Muriel A. Gillespie, 90, of Ackerman were Aug. 24, 2012, at Enon Cemetery with Denver Gillespie officiating. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Minnesota. Mrs. Gillespie was a member of Concord Baptist Church . She died Aug. 22, 2012, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Survivors include four sons, Dave Gillespie of Stirling, N.J., Denver Gillespie of Tumbling Shoals, Ark., Wes Gillespie of Wilmington, Ill., and Michael Pahl of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Bonnie Black and Holly Cornett of Ackerman, Muriel Bryant of LaGrande, Iowa, Lynda Orbik of Papillion, Neb., and Marti Stumbaugh of Mangum, Okla.; 41 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

Mathiston, Mississippi – Grady W. Clark, Jr., 82, passed away, on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Brooklyn Hall Personal Care Home, in Mathiston. Grady Woodfin Clark, Jr. was born December 15, 1929 in Chickasaw County Mississippi to the late Eula Mae Wilson and Grady Woodfin Clark, Sr. Mr. Clark worked at N. E. MS Coca Cola Bottling Company as a Delivery Driver and was of the Baptist faith. Grady W. Clark, Jr. married Sylvia Davidson Clark on June 5, 1981 in Starkville.
Memorial services were Monday, August 27, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed later in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Davidson Clark of Mathiston; one daughter, Vickie Clark Allen of Houston; two sons, Rickie Clark of Memphis, TN, and Charles Clark of Starkville; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
