Meeting’ in Maben
A “Rural Community Meeting” with Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley will be Aug. 30 in Maben at the First Baptist Church gymnasium from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Presley will update the public on current issues before the PSC and other consumer-related topics that affect Mississippians and its economic climate.
Boston butt sale
Eupora Masonic Lodge #423 members are selling tickets for Boston butts that will be ready to pick up at the lodge building on Aug. 31 from 3-5 p.m. just in time for the Labor Day weekend.
Whether you are going camping or just staying at home and doing the cooking, a Boston butt would sure come in handy. The price will be $25 and you can see any lodger member or you may call Ted Wilson at 258-8214 or 258-2064, Dwayne Dodd at 242-0600 or Gerald Gary at 552-0050 to purchase tickets.
The city of Eupora is accepting cheerleader registrations now through 5 p.m. Aug. 31 at 390 Clark Ave.
City Hall is open 8-5 Monday-Friday. The $25-per-child fee includes insurance, shirt and pom-poms. Child should be age 5 through 12. Questions? Call Park Director John Prather at 552-2529.
Greenlee family members will come together once again at the Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora on Sept. 1. The reunion starts at 11 a.m.
Attendees are asked to bring a dish of food and may bring what was brought the year before or pay $5 on what is needed.
The 12th annual Paul “Buddy” Hill Day starts at noon Sept. 1 at 31 Tank Hill Road, Eupora.
The day will include something for the whole family: entertainment by gospel groups and many more, good food, fun and games, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and more. Gate prizes will be given to the lucky ticket holder.
The Civic League of Mathiston will meet Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mathiston Public Library to discuss community events.
These include the Sept. 15 men’ s softball tournament. Entry fee is $100 per team. Trophies for first, second and third places will be given.

The Christmas Market is coming along! Anyone interested in serving during the weekend of events is asked to come to the next meeting, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m., at the Eupora Depot.
The theme for this year is “Let Freedom Ring with the Bells of Christmas.”

League shirt sale
The Civic League of Mathiston is conducting a T-shirt sale fund-raiser.
The shirt will be royal blue and the design located on the back of the shirt is lime green, yellow and orange. Sizes available are youth through adult 5X. Youth sizes are $10 and adult sizes are $12.
The Southern Belle shirt has a theme that comes from the country song “My Town” by Montgomery Gentry. It also expresses members’ faith, their love for family and fun.

Circuit Clerk Deborah Hood Neal announces that the qualifying period for Webster County School Board members, districts 3 and 4, is under way. The deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 7 to be placed on the November general election ballot. Contact the circuit clerk’s office at 258-6287 if any questions.

The Tomnolen Water Association’s annual meeting will be Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Tomnolen Fire Department.
A drawing is scheduled for an H&R .35 Whelen Handi-Rifle with a 3x9x40 Nikon scope to benefit Joyce Pittman.
Tickets are $5 each or three for $10. The drawing will take place at the Eupora Homecoming game on Oct. 5 at halftime.

Story Time at Webster County Public Library in Eupora is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 3-6 are invited to attend and enjoy stories and activities.

Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

supper Sept. 8
Walthall Baptist Church will have a barbecue rib and grilled chicken supper Sept. 8, at 5 p.m.
Carryout plates will be available at 4:30. Ribs, chicken, chicken livers, fried green tomatoes, desserts and other side items will be served.
Sapa Baptist Church will have revival services Sept. 9-12. The Rev. Bill Holcomb from Heber Springs, Ark., will conduct the services. Chris and Karen Ray will be in charge of the music.
Sunday services will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Monday-Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the Sunday morning service and finger foods will be served at the close of the Wednesday night service.
Sapa Baptist Church is located 5 miles east of Eupora on North Sapa Road.
Pleasant Hill M.B. Church will host its annual Family and Friends’ Day Celebration at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 9. The speaker will be the Rev. Arthur Farmer, pastor of Lindsey Spring and New Pleasant Spring M.B. churches. The theme will be “Growing Together in the Spirit of Unity.”

Mathiston Church of God will host a car show on Sept. 15.
Registration will be from 9-11 a.m. Trophies will be given at 3 p.m. for Best Car, Best Truck, Best Modified, Best Engine, Best Sound and Longest Distance Traveled.
The show will feature classic cars and trucks, muscle cars, rat rods, originals and modifieds. Grilled food and snow cones will be available in an air-conditioned waiting area.
The entry fee is $20. All proceeds go to the church building fund.
Nelons concert at
The Nelons will be in concert at Ackerman Church of God (8162 MS Hwy. 12) at 6 p.m. Sept. 16. A love offering will be received.
Grove Chapel Men’s, Women’s Day
Grove Chapel M.B. Church, located at 281 Fifth Ave., Maben, will have its Men’s and Women’s Day Program at 3 p.m. Sept. 23.
The Revs. Robert Townsel and Charles Goss will be the guest speakers for the event.
