Mantee house burns after lightning strike

MANTEE — A house on Highway 46 in Webster County near the Clay County line was hit by lightning on Aug. 9 around 6:30 a.m. and caught fire.

Chief David Brand of the Mantee Volunteer Fire Department said in an interview that Sherry Valdez and her two daughters escaped from the house unharmed, but the house was a total loss.

Brand thanked the Clarkson, Maben, Woodland and Montpelier volunteer fire departments for assisting in fighting the fire.
