Let us start with a quote from Frederic Bastiat’s book, “The Law” (by permission of BN Publishing).
“The Seductive Lure of Socialism: Here I encounter to most popular fallacy of our time. It is not sufficient that the law should be just; it must be philanthropic. … These two uses of the law are in direct contradiction to each other. We must choose between them. A citizen cannot at the same time be free and not free.”
When government takes money from one person to give to another it is no philanthropy at all. True philanthropy is giving charity of one’s own free will. True philanthropy is the only way to solve the healthcare problem! This can only be done by Legislators creating and passing a law that establishes the following three time honored principles and two free-enterprise reforms:
Principle 1. People who do not have healthcare insurance because they cannot afford it, are, and have been throughout history, given charitable healthcare by the providers (if the cost is far beyond their ability to pay). Providers will be encouraged to continue this practice.
Principle 2. Providers may continue to recover their unavoidable business losses; due to their moral and legal obligation to give charitable healthcare to those who cannot pay. They can only do this by raising the price of the healthcare they provide to those who are able to pay. This is not legalized plunder — how else could any business recover unavoidable losses.
Principle 3. People making an adequate living who have not purchased health insurance have always been, and should continue to be, given healthcare and a bill that they have to pay (in cash or over time).
Reform 1. Tort reform — since I am not a lawyer, legislators will have to write a section in this law that will limit the outrageously high medical lawsuits — excessively high awards are simply legal plunder!
Reform 2. Create Insurance reform — since I am not a lawyer, legislators will have to write a section in this law that will allow insured persons to be able to get insurance from any company and from anywhere — return to free enterprise!
NOTE: Not everyone has healthcare insurance but everyone has healthcare coverage in the ways indicated above — therefore; it is a blatant lie for politicians to claim that some people do not have healthcare. The vast majority of the American people do not need (or want) the government to step in and commit legalized plunder by taxing the poor (and over-taxing everyone else). And we do not want socialists in government to be able to threaten us with healthcare denial because we oppose their freedom-killing Marxist programs.
