Maben club selling birthday calendar

MABEN — During the month of August the members of the Maben Home and Garden Club are selling subscriptions for the community birthday calendar.

We ask that you give positive consideration to purchasing this calendar, because this is the club’s only fundraiser. These monies are used in Maben to provide maintenance and beautification to the Maben Public Library grounds, also to the “Welcome to Maben” sign and for the Adopt-A-Pot planters around Maben.

Currently and in the past, the club has donated funds to assist West Oktibbeha County High School secure a troupe of Shakespearian actors for the high school.

The club in its own way tries to encourage beautification of homes and yards in the Maben area by awarding the Yard of the Month sign.

The club sponsors the Christmas Lightning Contest for homes and for businesses. In years past, the club purchased major Christmas decorations for the town.

The club also contributes toward the purchase of seating at the Maben Area Chamber of Commerce semiannual banquet.

Periodically, monies are donated to the Palmer Home for Children and to the American Heart Association.

The club also contributes memorial books to the Maben Public Library, and plants memorial trees in the community.

In the 50 years the club has been in existence, the calendar has only raised it charge one or two times. For a fee of $5.50, a family can have all of their birthdays and anniversaries printed. For children no longer living at home, 75 cents per name will be charged. For deceased family members, a memorial marker will be placed with the name and the date of demise or on the birth date.

The money you may choose to spend on this calendar gets spent wisely and in our town. Our goal is to showcase our town in the best possible way.

You can be part of this by choosing to purchase a calendar or an ad as many businesses in town do.
