NMHS recognized as Best-in-Class for Employee Opinion Survey results

The results from North Mississippi Health Services’ 2012 Employee Opinion Survey earned NMHS the designation Best-in-Class for Engagement, Overall Job Satisfaction and Concern for Patient Care for having the highest scores among a field of more than 500 hospitals and health care systems in the United States.

Avatar Solutions, which conducts NMHS’ biannual employee surveys, recognizes clients for achieving excellence in their results and awards a Best-in-Class seal each year to select organizations whose scores are within the top 10 percent of its normative database. Eighty-six percent of NMHS’ employees completed the survey in May.

“These results didn’t just happen,” said Rodger Brown, NMHS vice president. “We have processes in place that encourage our employees to be engaged, to measure job satisfaction and encourage concern for their patients and their care.”

“Being named Best-in-Class in areas relating to our employees’ level of engagement and satisfaction with their work and concern for patient care are external validation that we’re focused on the right things,” said John Heer, NMHS president and chief executive officer.

“Our Critical Success Factors (People, Service, Quality, Financial and Growth) define who we are as an organization. The first of those is People. Our philosophy is that if we have motivated, engaged employees coming to work every day, we will have better patient satisfaction and higher quality. This leads to adequate financial results and appropriate growth.”

NMHS was ranked No. 1 for receiving the overall top score and the highest marks available, the 99th percentile, in seven areas: Satisfaction with the Work, Promotions/Career Advancement, Supervisory Consideration, Supervisory Promotion of Teamwork, Supervisory Instruction/Guidance, Communication, and Training and Development. NMHS ranked No. 1 in the Avatar database in five dimensions and achieved a Best-in-Class designation for 15 of 18 dimensions and exceeded the national health care norm scores in all 18 dimensions.

NMHS, which has an annual employee retention rate of 92 percent, is a diversified regional health care organization that serves 24 counties in north Mississippi and northwest Alabama, including Webster, from headquarters in Tupelo.

The NMHS organization covers a broad range of acute diagnostic and therapeutic services, offered through North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo; a community hospital system with locations in Eupora, Iuka, Pontotoc and West Point, and Hamilton, Ala.; North Mississippi Medical Clinics, a regional network of more than 30 primary and specialty clinics;, and nursing homes.
