Benefit for Sandra Smith A benefit for Sandra Smith, who is battling cancer, will be Aug. 4 at the Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora starting at 11 a.m.

It will include an auction, music, a cake sale, food and raffles. A camouflage Mossberg 100 ATR .30-06 with a 4x16x44 tactical scope and a 9mm Luger pistol will be given away at the benefit.

Sandra Perrigan Smith is the twin sister of Sara Abbott and the wife of Buddy Smith. She is now faced with a new round of cancer.

Leroy Clark benefit A matching fund benefit to help the family of the late Leroy Clark with medical expenses is being sponsored by the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Clark died of lung cancer.

The benefit will be from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Poplar Creek Fire Department. It will include an auction at 3 p.m., singing, cake and toy walk, country store, 50/50 cash drawing and more.

Hamburger and hot dog plates will be available, and raffle tickets are being sold for an oak rocking chair and Winchester Model 1300 12- gauge shotgun.

VFW cakewalk Ladies Auxiliary to Joe H. Morehead VFW Post 3806 will be having a back-to-school cakewalk Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at the post home on VFW Road.

The post will have school supplies and something for the sweet tooth as well.

All proceeds will go toward the Ladies Auxiliary programs for the new year. Military Assistance Program, Hospital/VAVS, cancer aid and research, Americanism and scholarship programs.

Henley reunion, Sapa Homecoming The annual Henley family reunion and Sapa Homecoming will be at the Eupora Country Club on Aug. 5 beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone come, bring a dish and have fun visiting. Lunch will be served at noon.

Back-to-School Celebration Woodmen Lodge 94 in Eupora is planning a Back-to-School Celebration on Aug. 5 from 1 until 4 p.m.

Hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts will be available. Activities planned are an inflatable jumper, baseball, games and other family activities. All schoolchildren in the community are invited to come for the fun and games.

The lodge is at the intersection of highways 182 and 82 east of Eupora.

Lucius reunion The Lucius reunion will be Aug. 11 at noon at Larry’s of Eupora, formerly Rekab’s, 704 Highway 9 S., Eupora; 258-4800. All family and friends are invited to attend. Story Time Webster County Public Library will begin Story Time on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 10:30 a.m. Bonnie Avent, library assistant, invites all children ages 3-6 to attend each week.

Blood drive United Blood Services will conduct a blood drive at Eupora First United Methodist Church on Aug. 21 from 2-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Giving blood is one of the most important things a person can do. One donation of blood can help as many as three patients. “Give the gift of life.”

Oops! You may have just ruined your favorite summer shirt with ketchup and mustard leaking from your hotdog. Can the shirt be saved? What about those other pesky oil and grease stains on clothes that are at the bottom of the clothes hamper? Can skunk odor in clothes be removed?

Dr. Wanda Cheek, clothing specialist, will revisit the basics and discuss stubborn stains and odor removal including effective products.

• Aug. 16: Drying and Preserving Flowers. Dr. Wayne Porter, area horticulturist, will provide information on drying and preserving flowers so you can enjoy some of your garden’s summer beauty during the dreary days of winter.

• Aug. 23: The Potter’s Hand Lee Ann Williamson, Christian World Missions, will use the potter’s wheel to illustrate not only how to make pottery but also in what ways the techniques apply to how we are shaped throughout life.

AA meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 5-6 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora in the Education Conference Room.

Bingo at VFW Bingo is every Saturday at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

Longview Opry Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.
