MABEN — The Webster Cluster of the Mississippi United Methodist Conference met June 19 at Lebanon United Methodist Church for its regular monthly meeting.
The cluster comprises Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Saint Stephens UMC, Dumas Chapel, Liberty UMC and Maben Methodist Church.
Officers are John Jones of Pleasant Hill UMC, Richard Jones of Saint Stephens UMC, the Rev. Raleigh Richter of Bellefontaine and Lebanon United Methodist churches, youth representative Terry Hamm from Saint Stephens and Terry Harpole, media person for the group.
President John Jones called the meeting to order, and made announcements and comments. He then turned the program over to Richter, pastor of the host church. He led the group in a devotion and spoke to the group about concern for the decline in youth membership in the Methodist church.
The group, after discussion with Richter, President Jones and China Ray Prewitt (widow of the late Rev. Maston L. Prewitt), agreed to plans aimed at the youth programs in the cluster’s churches.
For the last few years the Webster Cluster has given electric window fans to anyone in need of a fan. Anyone in need of a fan may contact any of the churches in the district.
The cluster has also been giving college scholarships to students from member churches. These scholarships have been given and will be given to students at East Webster High School in Cumberland, West Oktibbeha County High School in Maben and Eupora High School.
After the close of the meeting, the group had a covered-dish supper in the fellowship hall and then dismissed until the next meeting, which was held July 17 at Pleasant Hill UMC.
