North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora has awarded medical scholarships to Daulton Newman and Cain Young of Eupora High School, and Victoria Wooten of East Webster High School.
Newman received the Harold H. Whitaker Health Career Scholarship. This scholarship was established to recognize the 32-year career of NMMC-Eupora administrator, Harold Whitaker, who retired in 2005. This marks the seventh year to award this prestigious $1,000 scholarship.
Newman’s achievements include valedictorian, Top Merit graduate, STAR student and yearbook editor. He was active in Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Council, as well as, football and powerlifting competitions. Newman plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and major in neuroscience with a minor in economics with the goal of becoming a neurologist.
Young was an active member of the Biology Club, where he participated in the Science Bowl and the Envirothon Competition. He was also active in Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and played varsity baseball. Young plans to attend Ole Miss and major in pharmacy.
Wooten was valedictorian and a member of the Beta Club, Student Council, Biology Club and Bible by the Tree. She plans to attend MUW to pursue a career in nursing.
The NMMC-Eupora Health Career Scholarships are awarded through the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi to graduating high school seniors pursuing a health care career. Applicants are judged on ACT score, high school transcript, curriculum taken as it pertains to the chosen field, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation and their personal statements.
Gifts to the Harold H. Whitaker Educational Scholarships can be made in honor or in memory of an individual or individuals. Checks should be made payable to Health Care Foundation and mailed to HCF, 830 S. Gloster St., Tupelo, MS 38801. Donation forms are also available at NMMC-Eupora.
